2019 News – 15th, 16th and 17th March

Downunder Country will follow the same format as 2018 when we used the outdoor stage all weekend, as the size of the crowd was too big to be held in Centenary Hall.

One of our new Guest Artists will be Bernie Rogers (Anglesea Vic).

Bernie is a solo artist who is currently playing music around Mt. Gambier in South Australia and Casterton in Victoria.  As a young lad Bernie played music with Bill and Dianne Chambers in Southend and surrounding districts.  In his later years Bernie was based in Lismore NSW and played in a band called Country Connection performing in many of the clubs in Northern NSW for a number of years.

Playing as a regular player at the Lismore workers club Bernie got to back many of Australia’s country greats.  Artists such as Barry Thornton…Terry Gordon …Owen Blundell…Marge Graham….Evelyn Bury…..Johnny Greenwood….Tracy Coster….. and many more.  He played in the selection Record label’s concert in the 90′s before ill health sidelined Bernie for a few years.  Bernie returned to music in 1998 playing regularly in a few bands for twelve months before returning to South Australia where he played in Alan Webster’s band and then Sandra Humphries band.  He is looking forward to playing with David and Therese as he hasn’t played with them since Coleraine in Victoria a few years ago.  It will be he and his partner Ros’s first trip to Western Australia. Bernie will be performing early written music written by Bill Chambers in the 80′s and 90′s also many popular country hits.

Newly promotoed from our walk-ups in 2018 will be Mike and Libby from Dunsborough WA, to make their first appearance in our main concert.

Mike on Vocals and Guitar and Libby–Jean Muhling on Vocals and Bass. The Duo perform Original Country Music along with Country Music Covers from Artists such as – Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Slim Dusty, Dwight Yoakam, John Denver, Marty Stuart, Lee Kernaghan and many others.

They have a great love for Country Music, and we hope that Downunder Country will give them more exposure.

Our good mate Ric Davies (Coorow WA) is returning after last performing in 2017, and is a great favourite of the crowd, especially with his yodelling.

After a successful debut last year, Peter Pratt from Illabo NSW will be again be at Downunder Country.

Peter has been song writing and performing professionally since 2001 when he graduated from the CMAA College of Country Music.  He has won numerous awards, and has been a finalist three times in the “Golden Guitar – Country Music Awards of Australia” in 2005, 2007 and 2008.

He has also had two top hits on the Australian Country Top 30 Charts.

Crowd favourite Graeme Hugo is also returning.  2018 in Tamworth he was inducted into the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame.   Graeme’s experience and knowledge has been a great benefit to us all at Downunder Country since first appearing in 2016.

Our all time favourite compere, Bill Rowley, is back again to wow the crowds with his humour and his Johnny Cash style singing.  Kevin and Dehlia Brown from Queensland will also be returning, and are also part of the Downunder Country backing band, which will once again be run by our Music Co-ordinator, Steve Hill, from Bunbury.  Terry Bennetts is also back to perform and is part of the backing band.

Kate Hindle has performed at every Downunder Country since we started in 2011, and we have watched her mature with her voice and songwriting and musical knowledge.  She is back once again as a crowd favourite.

Our fantastic female singers will be lead by local lady Rozzi, who made a great debut in 2018, along with Sarah Broome (Perth) and Kathy Carver (Perth).

There will be many more local favourites.

There will be line dancing once again with Doug and Audrey, and Old Time Dancing with your hosts, David and Therese “Campfire Country”.

Walk-up artists can register on the whiteboard which is available on Friday 15th.

Bush Poets this year will once again be co-ordinated by Peter Nettleton, who performed brilliantly last year at the Bush Poets Breakfast.

Once again we thank all our wonderful helpers and friends for all their efforts in making this weekend successful.  Special thanks to Coleen and Ed Russell (Ag. Society), who co-ordinate the gate and caravan parking, and who make the Showgrounds very presentable.

BYO low back chairs, and food vendors will be available all weekend.
